After upgrading Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), images using a Dynamic Media grayscale image preset doesn’t appear in grayscale on published pages, even though the grayscale rendition is correctly generated and visible in the DAM. The Dynamic Media URL on the published page includes the grayscale preset, but the image displays in color. Testing the preset directly with a test image and the preset applied works as expected, and newly created grayscale presets function correctly. This issue typically occurs when the referenced grayscale preset is missing in Dynamic Media.

Symptoms
- Images that should appear in grayscale display in color on published pages.
- The grayscale rendition is present in the DAM.

Cause
The referenced grayscale preset is missing in Dynamic Media.
Resolution resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

Log in to Dynamic Media.

Navigate to Application Setup, and select Image Presets.

Check if the original grayscale preset (For example: 4by3ratio_448-395_grayscale) exists in the list.

If the preset is missing, create a new preset with the following configuration:

Format = JPEG

Color = Grayscale

Save the preset and ensure it appears in the list.

Apply the recreated preset to a sample image and verify that the image renders in grayscale using a Dynamic Media URL with the preset applied.
