HTTP request forwarding errors in AEM Dynamic Media

This article explains how to resolve HTTP request forwarding errors that can occur in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Dynamic Media after setting up a new account or reconfiguring environments. The solution involves verifying sample assets, recreating image and viewer presets, and ensuring cloud configuration alignment.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Dynamic Media, all supported versions.

Issue/Symptoms

After completing Dynamic Media setup with a new account or reconfiguring cloud services, HTTP requests for Scene7 assets fail with a forwarding error. This can occur when syncing sample assets, reconfiguring according to documentation, or migrating presets between environments. The AEM error log may show a message similar to:

com.scene7.is.util.error.Unchecked: javax.servlet.ServletException("Unable to forward request to: [ Dynamic Media image server URL] ")

Assets in the sample asset path may be missing or out of sync. Image presets and viewer presets may be inconsistent between environments. Updating or deploying presets may resolve the error unexpectedly.

Cause

This error occurs when there are conflicts or inconsistencies between sample assets, image/viewer presets, and the Dynamic Media cloud configuration, especially after environment changes or account migrations.

Resolution resolution

To fix the HTTP request forwarding error, follow these steps:

  1. Verify that the sample assets under the sample asset path are present and correctly synchronized. If missing or corrupted, use the Sample Manager in AEM to copy the sample content again.
  2. Delete existing image and viewer presets if they were migrated or are inconsistent.
  3. Recreate the presets from scratch, or deploy a known-good package of presets from a working environment.
  4. Confirm that the Dynamic Media Cloud Configuration points to the correct environment for your setup.
  5. In AEM, navigate to Tools > Cloud Services > Dynamic Media Configuration and verify the settings.
  6. In AEM, go to Tools > Assets > Dynamic Media General Settings and update the Published Server Name to match the delivery domain for your environment.
  7. Access test URLs for your assets to confirm that HTTP requests are forwarded correctly and images render as expected.
