Identify referrer domains for Scene7 asset URLs in Adobe Experience Manager

This article explains how to identify which external domains are accessing your Scene7 asset URLs in Adobe Experience Manager to support migration planning to Dynamic Media Open API delivery.

Description description

When migrating from Scene7 (DMS7) delivery to Dynamic Media with Open API (DMwOA) delivery in Adobe Experience Manager, it’s important to know which external domains are currently using your Scene7 asset URLs. This information helps you notify stakeholders and external teams about upcoming changes to asset delivery endpoints.

Environment

  • Adobe Experience Manager
  • Scene7 (DMS7)
  • Dynamic Media with Open API (DMwOA)

Symptoms

  • You need to identify which external domains are accessing Scene7 asset URLs for migration planning.

Cause

  • Scene7 platform logs provide a list of referrer domains but don’t capture all URL query parameters for production traffic. Only limited parameter data from preview servers is available.

Resolution resolution

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

  1. In the Dynamic Media Classic (DMC) UI, navigate to the Menu.
  2. Go to Setup > Application Setup > Administration Setup > Bandwidth & Storage > Domain.
  3. Review the list of domains accessing your Scene7 assets. This section provides details on main domains and may include subdomains depending on your configuration.
  4. If you require a comprehensive referrer domain report (including subdomains or more detailed usage), and this information isn’t available in the DMC UI, request assistance from Adobe to obtain the report. The report is generated from platform logs and lists domains currently using your assets.
  5. Use the referrer domain data to identify and notify external teams or stakeholders about the migration to DMwOA delivery. Provide them with guidance on new asset URLs and any changes to query parameters.
  6. For information on common query parameters used in Scene7 and their equivalents in DMwOA, consult the official Adobe documentation or compile a mapping based on your current usage.
  7. After notifying stakeholders and updating asset delivery endpoints, verify that all domains have transitioned to the new URLs and that assets are delivered as expected.
