AEM Universal Editor: Child items only load after parent selection in content selector

This article explains the expected behavior in Adobe Experience Manager Universal Editor where child items in the content selector navigation are loaded and displayed only after the parent item is selected. This is by design and not a product defect.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Experience Manager Universal Editor

Symptoms

When using the Universal Editor content selector, clicking the expander arrow next to a parent item in the left-hand navigation doesn’t immediately display its child items. Instead, child items only appear after the parent item is explicitly selected. This behavior is observed for items of type cq:Page. Only items of type sling:Folder and sling:orderedFolder are initially expandable in the navigation. No error messages are shown; the UI simply doesn’t expand as some users might expect.

Resolution resolution

This is the intended product behavior. The Universal Editor content selector defers loading child items for certain content types (such as cq:Page) until the parent item is selected to optimize performance.

There is no configuration or workaround available to change this behavior at this time.

Monitor Universal Editor release notes for any future updates or changes to this behavior.

If you observe different behavior (such as child items not loading even after selecting the parent) or encounter other unexpected issues, submit a support request through Experience League.
