AEM Publisher instance does not replicate content until restart

In some Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) environments, content activated from the Author instance doesn’t appear on the Publisher instance. As a result, the end users won’t see the latest updates on the live site, even though activation appears successful. To resolve the issue, restart the Publisher instance.

Description description

Environment

  • Adobe Experience Manager (all supported versions)

Issue/Symptoms

  • Content activated from Author is not visible on the Publisher instance.
  • End users do not see expected updates on the homepage or other pages.
  • No replication errors are shown in the AEM UI or logs.

Cause

In some cases, the Publisher instance stop processing replication requests due to an internal blockage or process hang. Restarting the Publisher instance clears the issue and restores normal operation.

Resolution resolution

To resolve the issue where an AEM Publisher instance stops replicating content, follow these steps:

  1. Confirm that content activated from the Author instance is not appearing on the affected Publisher instance.
  2. Check the replication queue in AEM to ensure items are being sent but not processed by the Publisher.
  3. Use your standard operating procedures to safely restart the affected Publisher instance.
  4. After the restart, activate content from the Author instance and verify that it appears on the Publisher. Confirm that the homepage and other affected pages now display the latest content.
  5. Monitor the Publisher instance for recurrence of the issue. Review the replication logs and error logs for any warnings or errors that may indicate why replication stopped. Look for signs of blocked queues, failed replication agents, or process hangs.
  6. If the issue recurs, consider reviewing the configuration and status of replication agents, and consult AEM documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
