In Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Dynamic Media, Smart Crop processing can fail during rendition generation when image processing encounters an invalid Smart Crop configuration. Assets upload successfully, but Smart Crop renditions don’t generate. To fix this issue, review the Image Profile and correct any Smart Crop dimensions that use unsupported aspect ratios.

Dynamic Media image processing fails specifically when generating Smart Crop renditions. The base image uploads successfully, but Smart Crop fails to generate, and the following error appears in logs:

No errors are highlighted in the Image Profile UI, but reviewing the profile reveals a Smart Crop dimension (e.g., 1280 x 60) with an aspect ratio outside the supported range.

Cause
Smart Crop processing fails when an aspect ratio in the Image Profile exceeds the supported range of 0.05 to 20, resulting in a validation error during rendition generation.
Resolution resolution
To fix this issue, follow these steps:
- Review the Image Profile applied to the affected folder. Navigate to the Image Profile or Smart Crop profile assigned to the folder that contains the affected assets.
- Check all configured Smart Crop dimensions and confirm that each aspect ratio is within the supported range of 0.05 to 20. For example, an aspect ratio of
1280 x 60(21.33) exceeds the maximum supported value. - Remove or adjust any invalid aspect ratios. Edit or delete any Smart Crop dimension that falls outside the supported range.
- If the issue occurs in only one environment, compare the Smart Crop or Image Profile with profiles in environments where processing works correctly and align the configurations as needed.
- Save the updated profile and reprocess the affected assets.
