Asset last modified timestamp not updating after metadata changes in Adobe Experience Manager Assets

In Adobe Experience Manager Assets, the last modified timestamp does not update when asset metadata is changed or an asset is renamed. This issue affects workflows that rely on the last modified date to detect changes, such as integrations with external systems. To fix this issue, enable the DAM Set last modified date launcher and configure the required feature flag.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) (all versions)

Issue/Symptoms

  • Modifying metadata fields, including default and custom fields, does not update the last modified timestamp.
  • Renaming assets does not update the last modified timestamp.
  • The issue is observable when checking asset properties through the JSON API or Query Builder.
  • The issue occurs in the Assets UI and may also occur in the Admin UI depending on feature flag configuration.
  • No specific error messages are logged, but the timestamp remains unchanged after metadata updates or asset renames.

Cause

Enabling the DAM set last modified date and adding the feature flag com.adobe.dam.asset.nui.feature.flag in the launcher configuration allows the last modified timestamp to update in both Assets UI and Assets AdminUI when asset metadata is changed or assets are renamed.

Resolution resolution

To fix this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the DAM Set last modified date launcher configuration in AEM.
  2. Enable the launcher
  3. Locate the feature dropdown in the launcher settings.
  4. Ensure that the feature flag com.adobe.dam.asset.nui.feature.flag is not listed under Disabled Feature. If it is present, remove it from the disabled list and enable it in the Features dropdown. This will enable the feature in Assets UI.
  5. Save the configuration changes.
  6. Test by updating asset metadata or renaming an asset in both the Assets UI and Admin UI. Verify that the last modified timestamp updates accordingly.
