AEM Screens Player displays Cannot GET error for channel content on some machines in Adobe Experience Manager 6.5.24

This article addresses an issue where certain AEM Screens Player machines fail to render assigned channel content and display a Cannot GET error, even though the content is available on AEM author and publish instances. To fix this, verify content availability, update the player, re-register the device, and test content rendering again.

Description description

Environment

  • Adobe Experience Manager 6.5.24
  • AEM Screens Player (Browser) version: aem-screens-player-browser-2.4.390

Issue/Symptoms

Some AEM Screens Player machines do not display assigned channel content. The following error appears on affected devices:

Cannot GET /content/screens/<project>/channels/<channel>.html
  • Content is confirmed present and accessible on both AEM author and publish environments.
  • The issue occurs only on specific machines. Newly registered machines with the latest player version can resolve the issue.
  • Older machines continue to experience the problem if they are not updated or re-registered.
  • Logs and HAR files from affected machines show failed GET requests for channel content.

Cause

The issue can occur due to multiple factors that prevent AEM Screens Player from retrieving channel content correctly. In the investigated case, updating the player and re-registering the device helped restore content rendering on affected machines.

Resolution resolution

Follow these steps to resolve the issue.

  1. Confirm that the required channel content is published and accessible by direct URL on both AEM author and publish instances.
  2. On the affected machines, install the latest supported version of AEM Screens Player, such as aem-screens-player-browser-2.4.390 or later.
  3. After you update the player, re-register the device with the AEM Screens environment.
  4. Open the configuration window and verify that the assigned channel content renders correctly.
  5. If older machines continue to experience issues and are no longer in use, remove them from the device management console to avoid confusion.
