Path browser images return 404 errors in Adobe Experience Manager
In Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service, images referenced from the path browser return 404 errors on live URLs and do not load as expected. This issue occurs when asset delivery configuration prevents direct access to assets. To fix this issue, update asset delivery configuration and use the recommended media delivery URLs.
Description description
Environment
Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (all versions)
Issue/Symptoms
- Images referenced using the path browser do not load on the live site.
- The browser shows a 404 error for asset URLs.
- Accessing an asset URL such as
https://develop--www-site-develop--ercot-central.aem.live/content/dam/ercot/asset.jpgreturns a 404 error. - The issue reproduces consistently after configuring an image on a page.
Cause
Assets referenced directly via DAM paths may not be accessible on live URLs due to asset delivery configuration in AEM as a Cloud Service. Using the recommended media bus delivery ensures assets are served correctly and efficiently.
Resolution resolution
To fix this issue, follow these steps:
- Verify the asset delivery configuration and use the recommended asset delivery mechanism for Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service. Refer to Media Bus documentation for setting up dedicated delivery infrastructure.
- Update image references in authored content and replace direct DAM paths with media bus delivery URLs. Refer to Media Bus documentation for the recommended platform for large video assets.
- Review dispatcher and CDN configuration and allow requests to the required asset paths.
- Remove or avoid incorrect rules that block or rewrite asset requests, and avoid custom rules that fetch assets from publish unless documented.
- Test asset URLs on the live environment and confirm that images load correctly without 404 errors.
