Unable to generate RDE access tokens in Developer Console AEMaaCS
In Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service, access token generation fails in the Developer Console for a specific RDE even when the user has Admin Console administrator rights. The failure occurs due to missing Cloud Manager or AEM Author permissions for that environment. To fix this issue, verify the correct organization and assign the required Cloud Manager and AEM Author product profiles to the user.
Description description
Environment
- Product: Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service(AEMaaCS)
- Instance: RDE (Rapid Development Environment) Author via Developer Console
Issue/Symptoms
- A user with Admin Console administrator rights can’t generate access tokens for an RDE using the Developer Console.
- The issue affects only one Rapid Development Environment, while other environments work as expected.
- Access is blocked due to permissions, with no explicit error code shown.
- The issue occurs on RDE Author URLs such as
https://author-<env-id>.adobeaemcloud.com/ui#/aem/.
Cause
The account doesn’t have one or more required product profile assignments in the Admin Console for Cloud Manager or the AEM Author service that supports the affected RDE environment. This missing access prevents access token generation in the Developer Console.
Resolution resolution
- Sign in to https://experience.adobe.com.
- Select the organization that includes AEM as a Cloud Service and Cloud Manager using the organization switcher in the top‑right corner.
- Open Cloud Manager and confirm that the correct program and the affected RDE environment are visible.
- Open the Admin Console for the same organization.
- Go to Products and open Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service – Cloud Manager.
- Open the Developer – Cloud Service product profile.
- Select the Users tab and ensure the user is added directly to the profile (not only via a user group).
- Assign the Developer product profile to the user in Cloud Manager. For more information, see Assign team members to Cloud Manager product profiles.
- In Admin Console, locate the AEM Author product for your AEM program or environment.
- Open the AEM Administrators product profile.
- Confirm that the user is added directly as a member and not only through a group.
- If you generate tokens for integrations or service accounts, confirm that you have permission to create service credentials.
