Server-to-server authentication not enabled for AEM Assets API

Server-to-server authentication for the Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) - Assets Author API does not appear in Cloud Manager even after creating and syncing product profiles. The required authentication service remains unavailable, and the Add Product Profile option stays inactive. This prevents proper configuration of API authentication for the target environment. To resolve the issue, assign the correct role and sync product profiles in Cloud Manager.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) - Assets

Issue/Symptoms

  • The server-to-server authentication service is not enabled when creating a project for the AEM Assets Author API in the developer console.
  • In Cloud Manager, the Add Product Profile button appears greyed out and remains inactive.
  • The development pipeline may succeed, but services remain unavailable for the selected environment (for example, the DEV instance).
  • Product profiles are created and synced; however, the service is not enabled for the target environment, and the expected authentication service is missing from the product profile configuration. No explicit error message is displayed.

Root cause

The account performing the configuration does not have the required Business Owner role in Cloud Manager. Without this role, Cloud Manager does not enable or sync product profiles and associated services, including server-to-server authentication for the AEM Assets Author API.

Resolution resolution

Follow the steps below to address the issue:

  1. Verify that you have the required permissions in Cloud Manager. Navigate to Access > Roles and check whether the Business Owner role is already assigned to your account.

  2. Assign the Business Owner roleif it’s missing:

    1. In Cloud Manager, go to Access > Roles.
    2. Locate the Business Owner role.
    3. Select the role, then add your account to the role assignment list.
    4. Save the changes to apply the role.
  3. Return to Cloud Manager and select Add Product Profile. This action triggers synchronization of product profiles with the target environment and enables the associated services.

  4. Wait a few minutes for the synchronization to complete, then refresh the Cloud Manager UI.

  5. Verify that server-to-server authentication appears for the AEM Assets Author API in the developer console.

  6. If the service still does not appear, run the development pipeline again to apply the configuration across the environment and ensure that services become available.
