Downloading large CRX packages times out in Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service
In Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service, downloading large CRX packages using the Package Manager runs into platform and CDN-imposed HTTP timeouts. These fixed timeouts cannot be increased and prevent successful downloads of large packages. To fix this issue, keep package sizes small enough to complete within the allowed window.
Description description
Environment
- Product: Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) – Sites
- Constraints: HTTP(S) traffic is routed through Adobe’s CDN with enforced timeouts
Issue/Symptoms
Downloading a package from the CRX Package Manager fails when the download takes longer than approximately two minutes. This occurs due to fixed HTTP request duration limits imposed by the platform and the CDN (Fastly).
Resolution resolution
To fix this issue, follow these steps:
- Ensure that each content package is small enough to be downloaded within approximately 60 seconds (time-to-first-byte limit).
- For larger content sets, split them into multiple smaller packages so that each individual download remains within the timeout window.
- Alternatively, use supported features such as Content Copy or Cloud Manager–based backup and restore workflows for bulk operations. Learn more in Restore content in AEM as a Cloud Service.
- After adjusting your packaging strategy, attempt to download each package via the Package Manager UI or API, and verify that the downloads complete successfully without timing out. Learn more in
