Understand and use the Person ID dimension to resolve people count mismatches
When a CJA connection uses multiple datasets with different identity fields, people counts can look wrong or hard to explain. Use the Person ID (adobe_personid) dimension to identify which IDs CJA uses as the person identifier across datasets and to validate people counts.
Description description
Environment
-
Adobe Experience Platform (AEP)
-
Customer Journey Analytics (CJA)
-

- One or more event datasets
- Optional profile datasets
-
Connection configured with one or more fields as Person ID
Issue/Symptoms
- People counts differ from expectations or from other tools (for example, Query Service).
- Multiple datasets in the same connection use different identity fields.
- Users cannot see clearly which identifier CJA uses as the unified person key.

What Person ID does
- Unifies identities across datasets The Person ID (
adobe_personid) dimension combines all fields marked as Person ID in the connection into a single dimension. - Drives the People metric The People metric in CJA counts unique Person IDs, not individual identity fields per dataset.
How to enable Person ID in a data view
- Open the relevant data view in Customer Journey Analytics.
- In the left panel, open Components.
- In the dropdown, select Metrics and Dimensions.
- Expand Adobe Metrics and Dimensions.
- Add Person ID (
adobe_personid) to the included dimensions. - Save and publish the data view.
