Changing derived field triggers dataset type change error in CJA

Adobe Customer Journey Analytics (CJA) displays the error Changing this field will effect the underlying dataset type and alter any other components made from this field when you add a Lookup function to an existing derived field. To resolve the issue, save the updated configuration as a new derived field.

Scenario: Modifying an existing derived field by adding a Lookup function

Issue/Symptoms

An error message, Changing this field will effect the underlying dataset type and alter any other components made from this field, appears when you save changes to a derived field.
The error displays when you add a Lookup function to an existing or previously saved derived field.

Resolution resolution

To address the issue, follow the steps below:

Open the existing derived field in Customer Journey Analytics and apply the required Lookup function changes. For more details, refer to Edit a derived field.
Select Save as instead of Save to create a new derived field with the updated configuration.
