Unpublishing a language master page fails due to locked child pages in AEM
Attempts to unpublish a language master page in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) fail when child or descendant pages are locked. Unlocking the affected child pages resolves the issue and allows the unpublish action to complete successfully.
Description description
Environment
Adobe Experience Manager Managed Services (Sites), v6.5
Issue/Symptoms
- Unpublishing a language master page shows the error: Replication actions cannot be performed because one or more child pages are locked.
- The parent page isn’t locked, but several immediate or nested child pages have locks applied.
Resolution resolution
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Identify all child and descendant pages under the target language master page.
- Check each child page for a locked status.
- Unlock every locked child page.
- Retry the unpublish action on the parent language master page.
- Verify that the page is successfully unpublished and no errors appear.
Note: Locks on jcr:content nodes occur due to ongoing edits or incomplete workflows. If locks persist after editing or workflow completion, unlock them manually.
