List Import Error: “Invalid Encoding”

When attempting to import a list in the UI, an error appears that states “Invalid encoding” and the import does not complete.

Root Cause:
Marketo requires the import CSV file be encoded with one of the following: UTF-8, UTF-16, Shift-JIS, or EUC-JP.

As next steps: Re-save the file, for example in Excel as file format CSV UTF-8, with the correct encoding. Then re-try the import into Marketo.
