Using Program Status as a Choice in a Flow Step
Description description
Nation articles such as https://nation.marketo.com/t5/Marketo-Whisperer-Blogs/Using-Program-Status-as-a-Choice-in-a-Flow-Step/ba-p/247452 and https://nation.marketo.com/t5/Product-Discussions/Be-Careful-with-Not-In-Program-as-a-Program-Status-in-Choice/m-p/310884#M175540 have always confused us during Smart Campaign troubleshooting.
Testing this scenario in a Smart Campaign flow step, we can add a choice “Program Status is” or “Program Status is not”, however, how should the records behave if they ARE or they ARE NOT members of the Program in order to fully understand how Marketo will deal with these records and Smart Campaign.
Here is the logic behind how the Smart Campaign Flow step works when: PROGRAM STATUS > IS NOT > [ Any Status] ):
-
If a record “A” is not a member of the Program parent of your Smart Campaign
>No “Program Status” (default choice) choice will be considered as record is not a member of Program AT ALL (“Not a member” is not an status, it means that record has no connection with Program)>resulting in default Flow being selected (in your case “Do Nothing”); -
If a record “A” has ANY valid Program Status, the Flow “Program Status is/ is not” will work (Smart Campaign will recognize Record belongs to Program);
- If a record used to have a valid Program Status and for some reason it was changed to “Not in program”, the flow “Program Status” will not have this record eligible (same situation as first example);
***Record MUST be member of the Program (any status) in order to run through Flow step.
