AEP: Unable to activate audiences due to missing MarketingAction permissions

In Adobe Experience Platform (AEP), audience activation to a production destination may fail—even if the user has standard activation permissions. This issue often occurs when required high-level permissions for the MarketingAction resource are not assigned.

To resolve this issue, assign one of the following permissions to the user: manage-audience-shares, manage-dule-policies, or view-dule-policies. Then, have the user retry audience activation.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Experience Platform (AEP)

Issue/Symptoms

  • Attempts to activate an audience to a destination result in a 403: Forbidden error.
  • The error message indicates missing permission (READ) for the MarketingAction resource in the production sandbox.

Resolution resolution

  1. Go to the permissions management interface in Adobe Experience Platform.

  2. Locate the affected user’s account.

  3. Assign one of the following high-level permissions:

    • manage-audience-shares
    • manage-dule-policies
    • view-dule-policies
  4. Save and apply the changes.

  5. Have the user retry audience activation for the destination. Refer to Activation overview for more details.

  6. Verify that the audience activation completes successfully.

Note: These permissions are still required—even if all DULE policies are disabled—when the destination includes a marketing action.
