Copying large DAM folders fails when using Content Copy Tool in AEMaaCS

Copying large folders between author environments using the Content Copy Tool in Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) fails. Smaller folders transfer successfully, but larger ones don’t complete, and the logs don’t display any error messages. Segmenting the folder into smaller subfolders ensures a successful transfer.

Description description

Environment

  • Product: Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) as a Cloud Service – Assets
  • Scenario: Copying large DAM folders between author environments using Content Copy Tool

Issue/Symptoms

  • Copying individual folders between DAM author environments completes successfully.
  • Attempts to copy large folders repeatedly fail without any visible error messages.
  • Logs do not display errors that explain the failure or provide diagnostic clues.
  • The Content Copy Tool supports only author-to-author transfers; publish-to-publish operations are not available.

Resolution resolution

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Locate the large DAM folder that fails during the copy process.
  2. Create multiple smaller subfolders from the original folder.
  3. Use the Content Copy Tool to copy each subfolder individually from the source author environment to the target author environment.
  4. After completing all transfers, verify that all assets appear correctly in the destination DAM.

Notes: The Content Copy Tool works best with smaller or segmented content sets. It may fail or timeout when handling very large folders. Only author-to-author transfers are supported; publish-to-publish copying is not available.

Limitations

  • The Content Copy Tool works only within the same Cloud Manager program. Cross-program content copy (for example, Program A Author to Program B Author) is not supported.
  • The supported flow is from the higher to lower environments (for example, Production to Stage/Development). Forward Flow (Development to Stage) is allowed only for non-prod environments within the same program.
  • The copy can only occur within the same tier (author to author or publish to publish).
