Bulk metadata edit not working in AEMaaCS

In Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) - Assets, bulk metadata edits don’t save when individual assets are edited separately and then re-selected before saving. To resolve the issue, keep all assets selected while editing metadata.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) - Assets

Issue/Symptoms

When attempting to edit metadata for multiple assets using the bulk editor, changes are not saved under specific conditions. The issue occurs when:

  • Two or more assets are selected, and their properties are opened.
  • Metadata is edited individually for each asset by selecting one asset at a time.
  • After editing individual assets, all assets are re-selected, and Save and Close is clicked.
  • However, if all selected assets are edited simultaneously without deselecting any during the process, the changes save correctly.

Resolution resolution

The bulk editor, by current design, applies metadata changes only to assets that remain selected when you save. It doesn’t support assigning different metadata values to individual assets in a single bulk edit action. To apply metadata successfully:

  1. Select all desired assets in the admin view.
  2. Open the properties panel.
  3. Make your metadata changes while keeping all assets selected.
  4. Click Save and Close to apply the changes.

Additional Notes

  • Adobe Engineering confirms this behavior is part of the current design.
  • An enhancement request is logged in Adobe’s Ideas Portal, but there’s no confirmed timeline for implementation.
