Copying assets or folders with duplicate names fails in new AEM UI
In Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) – Assets, the new UI blocks copy operations when an item with the same name already exists in the target folder. It shows the error: Asset name already exists in folder and doesn’t offer options to rename or auto-append numbers. To resolve the issue, rename the item before copying it.
Description description
Environment
Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) – Assets
Issue/Symptoms
- Copying or moving an asset or folder fails if the target location already contains an item with the same name.
- Error message displayed: Asset name already exists in folder.
- The new AEM UI doesn’t append a number to duplicate names automatically.
- No input field is provided to rename the item during the copy operation.
Resolution resolution
This behavior is by design and results from limitations in the content listing API used by the new AEM Assets UI. Currently, there’s no built-in support for handling duplicate names during copy operations.
To address this limitation:
- Rename assets or folders manually before copying if duplicates exist in the target location.
- For repeated duplication of folder structures (such as customer-specific subfolders), create uniquely named folders manually before copying.
