Issue to project conversion grants home group “view” access by default in Workfront

When converting an issue into a project using a template in Adobe Workfront, the creator’s home group automatically receives view access to the resulting project. To resolve the issue, configure sharing rules and template group assignments correctly.

Issue/Symptoms

  • Issue-to-project conversion assigns creator’s home group view  access.
  • Templates without group assignments trigger default group visibility.
  • External or unrelated groups gain unintended access to new projects.

Cause

Default sharing rules automatically assign view permissions to the creator’s home team when users with Planner-level access create a new project.

Resolution resolution

To resolve the issue,

  1. Review and modify the default sharing rules for Planner-level access in your Workfront instance.

  2. Configure templates used for issue-to-project conversions:

    • If a template includes a group, Workfront applies that group to the new project.
    • If no group is defined and no manual selection is made, Workfront assigns the user’s home group by default.

  3. Test the changes by converting an issue to a project and verifying group access.
