Preset editor shows blank screen in AEM Managed Services

In Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), the Image Preset Editor and Viewer Preset Editor fail to load, showing either a blank screen or an endless loading spinner. This happens due to unsupported Dynamic Media configurations or misconfigured workflow launchers. To resolve the issue, remove multiple configurations, update workflow launcher settings, manually sync assets, and reconfigure Dynamic Media settings.

Issue/Symptoms

  • Image Preset Editor loads a blank screen when creating or editing presets.
  • Viewer Preset Editor keeps spinning and doesn’t load.
  • Logs show permission errors like IPS API fault code=20003.

Here’s what the error would look like:

Resolution resolution

  1. Ensure that there’s only one Dynamic Media cloud service configuration per AEM instance. If you see multiple, remove any staging company configurations that aren’t needed.

  2. Confirm that the default DAM Update Asset and Dynamic Media Encode workflow launchers are enabled for these paths:

    • /content/dam/_DMSAMPLE
    • /content/dam/_CSS/
    • /content/dam/_VTT

    If they’re missing, create new launchers for these paths.

  3. If you can’t reconfigure Dynamic Media right away, manually run the DAM Update Asset workflow on assets in the paths listed above.

  4. Delete existing sample assets and viewer presets, then reconfigure Dynamic Media to automatically recopy them.

  5. Open the Image Preset Editor and Viewer Preset Editor to confirm they load correctly. Also, check that sample assets are synced in the Sample Manager (Tools > Assets > Sample Manager).

  6. Go to Tools > Assets > Viewer Presets and publish the presets directly from there.
