Asset processing failed for large MP4 files in AEM as a Cloud Service

Issue/Symptoms

  • Uploading a large MP4 video results in an Asset Processing Failed  status.
  • Asset logs indicate PROCESSED status, with warnings about missing renditions.
  • Video metadata such as duration is not populated.
  • One or more renditions are not generated.

Cause

This issue occurs due to resource exhaustion during the transcoding of large video files. As a result, asset processing fails partially, causing missing renditions, and metadata.

Resolution

Adobe Engineering identified and resolved a bug (ID: ASSETS-50011) that was affecting MP4 file processing. The fix was deployed on April 29, 2025.

To confirm the issue is resolved, please re-upload any MP4 files that were previously affected. Then, check to ensure all renditions are generated correctly and that the metadata is complete.
