Resolving timeout errors during segment creation in Adobe Experience Platform
This article explains how to resolve timeout errors during audience segment creation in Adobe Experience Platform. These errors typically occur during audience size estimation or publishing when using transactional events and lookup variables. The solution involves reordering segment conditions and understanding estimation behavior.
Description description
Environment
Product: Adobe Experience Platform
Environment: Production
Issue/Symptoms
- After selecting audience segment conditions and refreshing the estimate, no estimate is returned.
- Publishing the segment results in an estimation timeout error.
Resolution resolution
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Add the event type (for example, purchase) as the first condition, then include additional variables (for example, code). Reordering conditions can help resolve estimation issues during segment creation.
- Click Estimate again if the initial attempt fails to complete. A second attempt often resolves the issue and allows the estimation to finish successfully.
- Understand that estimation tool uses a sample of profiles, not the full dataset. If specific values (for example, 31) aren’t in the sample, the estimate may return zero even if matching profiles exist. Newly added values might take time to appear due to periodic sample refreshes.
- Verify dataset profile counts using Query Service if a large audience (for example, millions of profiles) returns no estimate. This helps confirm whether the data aligns with expectations.
- Manually recreate the audience definition using different combinations of conditions or variables if issues persist. This can help identify discrepancies affecting estimation.
Follow these steps to reduce timeout errors and improve estimation accuracy in Adobe Experience Platform. If the issue persists, contact Adobe Support for further assistance.
