Recipient count drops after delivery activity in Adobe Campaign Classic

In Adobe Campaign Classic, you notice a drop in record count after a delivery activity. This happens because some records are excluded during the target mapping process without leaving an audit trail. To fix this, review custom target mapping and investigate exclusion criteria.

Issue/Symptoms

After you run a delivery activity in a workflow, the record count drops unexpectedly. Symptoms include:

  • The system doesn’t list the missing records in exclusions or logs under sent  or failed  statuses.
  • The system filters records at the target mapping level without generating an audit trail.

Resolution resolution

To address this issue:

  1. Examine the custom target mapping configuration used in your workflow. Check reconciliation parameters and associated join conditions in the targeting dimension schema to ensure they align with expected data attributes.
  2. If you’re unsure what to look for, compare a delivery where the target is dropped with one where it isn’t. Identify the target mappings used in each case. If possible, enable SQL logging at the delivery or workflow level before the preparation step.
  3. If SQL logging can’t be enabled on a live delivery, create two test deliveries using the different target mappings. Run the delivery analysis/preparation to identify which JOIN condition affects the delivery preparation.
  4. After identifying the columns used in the JOIN, verify whether the dropped target population contains data in those columns. To do this, select the Keep interim results checkbox in your workflow and compare the records entering the delivery activity with those in the outbound transition.
  5. Identify any criteria that exclude records during reconciliation (for example, Sales ID = 0 or accountId = 0). Ensure all required fields for reconciliation are populated correctly.
