Update Database Structure wizard in Adobe Campaign Classic not showing schema

When using the Update Database Structure wizard in Adobe Campaign Classic, schemas linked to external databases are not displayed. This article explains the reasons and provides steps to understand this behavior.

Description description

Environment

Adobe Campaign Classic

Issue/Symptoms

When using the Update Database Structure wizard in Adobe Campaign Classic, schemas linked to external databases are not displayed.

Resolution resolution

  • The Update Database Structure wizard in Adobe Campaign Classic is designed to manage schemas within the internal Adobe Campaign database. Schemas linked to external databases are handled differently and do not appear in this wizard.
  • Schemas linked to external databases are created through Federated Data Access (FDA) by selecting the external account that connects to the database and mapping its table structure within Adobe Campaign. It automatically detects the structure of the external table. It generates a logical schema for interaction, but this schema remains mapped externally and does not physically integrate into the internal database.
  • Schemas mapped externally and marked with attributes like view=true are excluded from the Update Database Structure  process. The wizard updates only local database schemas and does not generate SQL table creation scripts for externally mapped schemas.
  • By design, external database schemas are managed separately to ensure proper handling of federated data without altering or duplicating structures within the local environment.

Note: This does not apply to Adobe Campaign Managed Services v8 customers using Full FDA, unless the schema is created using an external database other than Adobe’s default Snowflake External Database account.
