This guide explains how to use the Experience League (ExL) Authors extension to review the latest tags applied to your repositories. You can use this tool in VS Code.

  • The Review Tags panel (the main UI) is updated to let you do more than review. It displays tag values instead of tag types, making it easier to see and manage tags.

  • Keyboard shortcuts have been added for faster manual tagging, including selecting files, bulk selection, deselection, and launching tag actions.

    • alt-t or opt-t to open a new Add tags to selected files panel. This panel lets you quickly add tags with smart filtering.
    • Copy tags from one file and paste (apply) them to others.
    • opt-A or alt-A to launch auto-tagging for all visible files in a folder.

  • The Add Tags dialog now abstracts the relationship between feature and sub-feature, allowing you to type and find tags more easily.

  • The Add Tags dialog has also been added to the metadata panel, with keyboard shortcuts for submitting and saving tags.

You can also browse and search the Taxonomy Glossary to verify whether tags exist. From there, you can create a Jira ticket.

About the new taxonomy

Things to remember:

  • Do not manually edit metadata or remove v1 values.
  • The purpose of V2 tags is that they are machine and human readable. (V1 tags were only human readable.) The new system lets you add tags from the authoring environment.
  • Auto-tagging works only in migrated Adobe Enterprise Docs (GHEC) repositories.
  • Tags are automatically added to your repo. An autotag-review branch is created (but not required). Reach out to Bob Bringhurst about adding tags at the repo level.
  • Topic tags are not being used currently. Ignore this field until further notice.
  • A product tag is required for each page. You can add product to the metadata or TOC file in your repo.

Set up and run auto-tagger setup

  1. Install the Adobe ExL Authors extension. See Adobe ExL Authors.
  2. To launch the tool in VSC, click the Adobe ExL Authors (the Adobe icon).

Add metadata to a single file single-file

You can add metadata to a single file. Use cases:

  • Add a product tag to the metadata.md or the TOC.md file

  • Add a role tag to an article or TOC.md

  • Add a feature tag to an article

    IMPORTANT
    Adding a tag (such as product) to metadata.md causes all articles in the repo to inherit the tag. Adding a tag in the TOC.md file displays the tag on all files referenced in the table of contents. Article-level tags supersede metadata.md and TOC.md values.

To add a tag to a single file

  1. Set up and run auto-tagger.

  2. In your repo, open the file.

  3. Click Edit Metadata.

  4. In the IA Metadata panel, click Add (the plus icon) for product.

  5. Save the file.

Work with tags review-tags

To launch the auto-tagger, click Adobe EXL Authors (in the sidebar), then click Review tags.

The Review Tags interface displays files and data about each file (file name, folder, tags found, and review status).

Review Tags

  • Filter: You can filter files by missing tags, folder, or review status. You can also search for specific files.

  • Select files: You can use the space bar to select articles when mousing over them.

  • Copy, paste, or add tags: Lets you perform these actions on files, or quickly access the Add Tags panel.

  • Autotag: Opens the IA Metadata panel. It’s an intuitive interface that lets you review, remove, and add tags.

    Use IA Metadata to add and remove all tag types.

    You can also browse and search the Taxonomy Glossary to verify whether tags exist.

Quick tag

This panel lets you quickly add tags with smart filtering and apply tags to multiple articles.

You can open the Quick tag panel in IA Metadata. Or, open it by selecting files, then using Opt-T or Alt-T shortcuts.

Tag automatically

In the IA Metadata panel, click Tag Automatically.

This option automatically determines appropriate tags for the article, based on tags in Top Quadrant (glossary).

Autotag batches of articles

You can apply, save, and mark reviewed tags on batches of files (all the filtered articles on the Review Tags table). Tags are generated and validated for each file. Files are saved automatically.

  • In the Review Tags panel, click Autotag.
