Work with enterprise tools for DAM

The publishing process for digital content in an organization can consist of several sequential or parallel tasks for edits, reviews, and approvals that need to occur repeatedly. Experience Manager offers several tools that can be used to implement these business processes. Asset review tasks, ad hoc tasks, and workflows can be used in different combinations to implement a specific business need.

After completing this module, you should be able to:

Learning scenario

As AEM Assets continue to gain support within WKND, more casual users are starting to upload assets. Unfortunately, the assets being uploaded do not have a lot of metadata, which makes the assets difficult to use or find in the DAM.

To solve this problem, the DAM admin has decided to implement required metadata for all assets uploaded by casual users. So, moving forward, assets uploaded without a Title or Description will have a Required Metadata Missing banner shown to all users. After the required fields are filled in, the banner disappears. The DAM admin hopes this will encourage casual users to add metadata without blocking them from uploading and using assets in the DAM.

Demo 4.1: adding required fields to asset properties

In this demonstration, your instructor (playing the DAM admin role) will create a new schema and make the Title and Description fields mandatory fields.

Now that you've learned about adding required fields to asset properties, let's learn about exporting and importing metadata.

Learning scenario

The DAM admin has asked you to go through the ski assets and add any missing titles and descriptions, and to encourage others to do the same. They suggest you use the Export Metadata tool to quickly make metadata updates to a large number of assets spread across the DAM.

The Export Metadata tool in AEM Assets is extremely useful for updating many assets scattered throughout the DAM. In this training, you will use your User0XX Ski Team folder to avoid collisions with other students.

The DAM admin has informed you to look for dc:title and dc:description in the metadata export.

Export and import metadata

This hands-on activity shows you how to export metadata. If you need step-by-step instructions, please refer to Activity 4.1: Export and Import Metadata, Task 1: Export Metadata in the activity guide.

Task 1: export metadata

In this activity, your instructor shows you how to export metadata.

Task 2: add metadata to the csv

In this activity, your instructor shows you how to add metadata to the CSV.

Task 3: import metadata

In this activity, your instructor shows you how to import metadata.

In the next step, you will learn how to create AEM projects.
