So, I’m going to go ahead and get logged in. Now, before we get started, I just want to explain a little bit of the setups behind the DAM. There’s three main types of users when it comes to Workfront DAM. There’s a system administrator, or what just DAM calls the administrator, and this is the person who can see and do everything. These are the people that are going to be responsible for the overall system setups and for maintaining the DAM itself. Now, there’s brand connect users, brand connect, brand portal, whatever you happen to call it. Those users are going to have limited access. In fact, let me open up that brand connect right now, just so I can show you. It’s a little bit different than what we’re going to be looking at today. Okay. So we’re going to have limited access in here. We’re only going to be able to see the things that we have been given permission to see. We’ve got some different search capabilities. We’ve got some different things up in the menu, and a lot of the time, users use this, the recipient of finished asset, will come in here to find it. They can download it, they can share it with other people.
So, as I said, there’s a whole separate class on how to use this aspect, but what we’re going to do today is a contributor. And a contributor is someone who can log in to the Workfront DAM, and come in here, manage images, manage different assets, but it’s all based on their permissions. So, they can’t do everything. They can’t get to everything like an admin can. They’re only going to be able to do the things they’ve been given permission to do, get to the assets they’ve been given permission to get to.
Now getting around the Workfront DAM, is pretty easy. So we’ve got a navigation bar up here at the top, and assets is one of the key ones that we’re going to be using today, and I’ll come back to that in just a sec. Let’s take a look at the rest of the window here. Now, we’ve got a search window up at the top, and then below that, we have some additional filters we can use when we’re searching.
We’ve got a folder structure here to help us organize our assets and to store our assets. The most important function that a folder serves in Workfront is permissions to the assets. If you don’t have permissions to the photograph folder, you’re not going to be able to, you’re not even going to see the photographs folder in there, okay. If you don’t have permissions to the creative folder, you’re not going to see it in there. So granting permissions to different assets is all about the folders.
Now you can see here in the main area of the window, we have our latest uploads, our newest assets, and we can just click on any of these to get into 'em. And then on the right side, we have a list of our most recent notifications, so this will let you know downloads are ready, if you’re following a certain item, it’ll give you notifications when it’s changed, that type of thing. And I’ll show you today, kind of toward the end of class, how we can manage what notifications we’re getting. Now, I mentioned earlier that this assets menu is a good thing to use, and I use this all the time. When you click on that, it simply shows your folder structure here in the middle part of the window, so that way I don’t have to constantly folder dive. And, sometimes these are a little small, my clicking isn’t quite right, I’ve just got some bigger folders here to look at. -
