Creating Form Data Model Without Data Source creating-form-data-model-without-data-source

Starting with AEM Forms 6.4, we now have the ability to define Form Data Model (FDM) without associating it with a data source. The following video walks through the steps to create FDM without any data source.

Transcript
We now have the ability to develop Form Data Models without a data source. This speeds up the development of your forms. Once the data source is developed, you can then associate the data source with the form data model and do the necessary findings. To start, we will Create a form data model and not associate any data source with the form data model.
We will then Create an entity called beneficiary.
To this beneficiary entity, we will add some properties such as ID, address and full name.
We will now associate the data source with the form data model.
We are going to select a 401k statement as the data source for our form data model.
We will then Edit the data model and Bind the beneficiary object with the user object of the data source.
Once you do the binding, the automapping feature will automatically bind similar elements from the user object with their beneficiary object.
For example, the address and ID elements are bound automatically.
There is a visual indicator to indicate that the full name field of the beneficiary object does not have any binding.
We will now Bind the full name field with the name element of the user object and Save the changes.

This gives you the following advantages:

  • Speed’s the development of Interactive Communication Documents/Forms.
  • Development of Interactive Communication Documents/Forms can be done in parallel with data source development.
  • Once the data source is developed, you can do the bindings using the visual editor.
  • Auto binding feature maps similar elements.
