In this video you’re going to be seeing how to use the custom video thumbnail feature in Adobe Experience Manager. In order to explore this feature, it is important to run your AEM instance in dynamic media mode. After making sure that the dynamic media is enabled, let’s switch back on the AEM homescreen’s tab and select the Assets from navigation. Select the folder, where you have the movie files and images uploaded. In this particular interactive video folder, you can see a list of images and the movie file. Move over the movie file and select the view properties option. On the left side of the screen you can notice a thumbnail dedicated for this particular movie file, a poster image that appears on the video player. Currently a poster image thumbnail is selected based on a general rule and customers have no control over it. This can actually create something like an non-understandable image such as a faded image or a blury image.
And we have responded and added to the production a new feature called custom video thumnail. User has an option to select from one to ten off equally spaced thumbnails generated from the video. Given this as a video thumbnail. The set of 10 thumbnails cannot be configured or customized. Let’s go and explore, how we can change the thumbnail and select the right thumbnail for a movie file. Click on the Change Thumbnail option and you will see a dialog box with two options. A user can either upload a new thumbnail from your local machine and then use that particular image as a thumbnail. Or you can click on the Select frame, which actually creats one to 10 equally spaced thumbnails generated from the video, to use as video thumbnail.
From this set of 10 images, users can select the right image to be set as a thumbnail for the movie file. Click on tab on one of the thumbnail Options and click on save changes, to select this particular thumbnail for your movie file.
A new thumbnail is generated based on the user selection and is applied to the movie file. Let’s go ahead and save and close.
Now you should be able to see the new generated thumbnail and add it to your file. Let’s also explore the second option, where user can upload an image from your local machine and then use that image as a video thumbnail for your movie file. Move over the movie file and select the view Properties option.
Click on the Change Thumbnail option and from the change thumbnail dialog box click on the Upload New Thumbail option. Click on the upload button.
Select the image that you would like to be used for your video thumbnail.
Click open and save your changes.
You should be able to see the newly uploaded image, and this is the video thumbnail for your movie file.

Customizing Video Thumbnail

Transcript
In this video, we are going to be discussing how to customize the video component in AM 6.3. It is important to note that you need to have your AEM instance running in dynamic media mode to enable this functionality. From your AEM home page, let’s navigate to the asset folder which you have the video stored under. Click on “Assets”, “File”, and then select the interactive video folder. I recently uploaded a video file into the folder. You can notice a default thumbnail selected for this video file. The default thumbnail is selected randomly from a video file. Some of the thumbnails randomly generated might not be very appealing, or content editors might want to create a better component for the video. With AEM 6.3, customers can select a more suitable video file thumbnail from a set of thumbnails generated.
Let’s click on the property icon for the media file, and you can notice a default thumbnail for the video. Users can change this thumbnail by clicking on the “Change thumbnail” option. AEM by default creates ten thumbnails and lets the user select the desired one. Select a desired thumbnail and save your changes.
Note that the default number of thumbnails generated by AEM is customizable, and let’s see how this could be done. Let’s navigate to CRXDE, and navigate to EDC slash down slash dynamic media configuration. Note that the “Dynamic media enable” flag must be such a group for it to be working. Naviagte to the email server, configures, JCR, and then settings. You can notice the thumbnail time property under “Email server settings”. In the previous step, you were able to generate ten thumbnails based on this property value. A thumbnail is generated at a certain percentage of the video playback by the scene seven server. Let’s customize this property and change it to create four thumbnails at different intervals of one, twenty-five, fifty, and ninety-nine persons each.
Make sure you save your changes by clicking on the “Save” button in the top left corner. After saving your changes, let’s navigate back to our asset video folder and generate new thumbnails for a video based on the thumbnail customization we did in the previous step.
It usually takes a couple of seconds for the thumbnail generation.
Now, you can notice four new thumbnails generated for the video based on our customization, and select the desired thumbnail and save your changes.
NOTE
