Renditions

Learn about renditions in AEM Assets, and how they can be previewed.

Transcript
Asset renditions are simply different representations of an asset’s original file. Examples include thumbnails, web or mobile optimized renditions, watermarked or DRM-protected renditions, or even more dynamic things, like smart crops. Asset renditions don’t have to be the same file type as the original file, they simply represent the asset for some set of use cases.
An asset’s renditions can be reviewed by clicking in to an asset and selecting Renditions from the left side bar. Our renditions are listed on the left with the preview on the right.
Here we have an asset that has several PNG thumbnail renditions that are used to represent the asset in AEM assets. These are what we’re seeing when we navigate the files view in AEM assets. There’s also a high resolution web rendition that can be used in the event the asset needs to be represented in a web experience, such as an asset share, or when used to composing experience in AEM sites. The original file is always available as the original rendition. In general, these renditions whenever an asset is uploaded, modified, or when new rendition rules are defined, and existing assets are reprocessed.
Renditions can be directly uploaded, and existing renditions, deleted.
However, typically, it’s best for all renditions to be managed by AEM assets processing, ensuring consistent and predictable renditions across assets. -
