Hi there. In this video, let’s take a quick look at how to make edits to an AEM assets file and save your changes, using the Adobe Asset Link panel, for a creative user. Adobe Asset Link streamlines collaboration video and creative professionals and marketers in the content creation process. It connects Adobe Experience Manager assets with the Creative Cloud desktop applications like InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. The Adobe Asset Link panel allows creatives to access and modify content stored in AEM assets, without leaving the apps, they’re most familiar with. From the Creative Cloud product toolbar options choose Window and from the Extensions list, select Adobe Asset Link. Let’s choose the AEM environment and navigate to your organization’s asset folders, Adobe Experience manager assets, lets you check out assets for editing and check them back in after you complete making the changes. After you check out an asset, only you can edit the asset. Checking out asset locks the asset, other users cannot perform any of these operations on the asset until you check the asset back into AEM assets. However, they can still change the metadata for the locked asset.
This feature helps other users from overwriting the changes made by an author, where multiple users, collaborate on editing workflows across teams. Select a file from the list, and using the assets context menu, let’s perform an asset checkout operation. You can notice the checked out asset opens up in a new window in your Creative Cloud desktop application. You can see a lock icon right next to the asset file in the panel, indicating the asset has been checked out by you. Now, let’s edit the checked out file and make some design modifications. Make sure to save your changes.
Based on how you have set up your checkout configuration for Adobe Asset Link, a temporary copy of the checked out file gets downloaded to your Hard Disk or gets synced with the Creative Cloud files. The temporary file remains in the directory, until rechecking the asset back to AEM Assets.
Let’s take a look at how the checked out file appears for a marketer, in AEM Assets window. You can notice the lock icon on the asset file, indicating that the asset is checked out by a user for editing and it’s not available for edits. A list of checked out assets by user can be viewed right from Adobe Asset Link panels home screen enabling creatives to get to the assets that are working in progress quickly. After saving all your changes. Let’s check in the asset. This time, when you click on the Assets Context Menu, you have a few additional options. At any point, you can cancel your asset check out, which will make your asset available to other users for editing. Let’s check in our asset and optionally provide a comment for your checking. It is a good practice to provide comments for your checking, as it helps marketers to keep track of changes, associated with an asset. With the asset checking, the lock icon status for the asset is removed and will be available to other users for editing. I hope I was able to show you how to check in check out AEM Asset files, using Adobe Asset Link. Adobe Asset Link streamlines collaboration between creative professionals and marketers in the content creation process. -
